CSR/Sustainability: Measuring Social Impact with GRI (L2)

Course Summary

Following Rio+20, CSR is becoming an increasing concern for companies. For CSR to be effective, the impacts of a company on society, the environment and the economy need to be assessed and, where possible, measured. Adrian Henriques and Enrique Torres (formerly Head Trainer, GRI) will lead this course and look at the challenges as well as techniques available to measure CSR impact. It will cover environmental, social and economic impacts. Techniques discussed include those based on financial measures, such as environmental investments, social return on investment, the value of market research for CSR as well as approaches to handling far more subjective matters.

Course Methodology

This course will be taught through:

  • presentations of theory
  • case studies of techniques based on GRI’s G4
  • exercises related to the techniques
  • extensive discussion of how the varieties of CSR impacts can be measured.

Participants will be encouraged to tackle issues on the basis of their own experience, whatever their background. They will also be asked to share their experience of corporate responsibility and measurement where appropriate.

The course will also review the extent to which companies currently actually do measure their impacts. This will be based on the review of CSR programmes.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for delegates who are seeking to understand the complexities of measuring corporate social, environmental and economic impacts and who wish to understand and work with the available techniques.
